Gary Neville calls out two Liverpool stars after 'messy' incident in Wolves win

Liverpool beat Wolves 2-1 to go top of the Premier League on Saturday, but Gary Neville was quick to highlight the 'messy' way they conceded.

Liverpool went 1-0 up on the stroke of half-time after Ibrahima Konate scored from a corner, but Wolves netted an equaliser in the second-half through Rayan Ait-Nouri. Konate and Alisson were involved in a mix-up that allowed Jorgen Strand Larsen to win the ball in Liverpool's penalty area.

The ball was ultimately bundled over the line by Ait-Nouri and Neville was hugely critical of Konate and Alisson's roles in the goal. "Well, well, well. Only five minutes ago, you wouldn't believe that would happen," Neville said on commentary for Sky Sports.

"I just said Liverpool are strolling around - and this is just sloppy from them. Van Dijk stands, Konate goes back. A bit of dilly-dallying around by Konate who tries to shepherd it towards his goalkeeper and then it's just a mess.

"But it's a good mess for Wolves. Look at Konate - what are you doing? Then Alisson gets caught out of his goal, scrappy. That's what you get in football when you take things for granted. But Liverpool, at 1-0, you're never safe. I can't think why he would stop."

Mohamed Salah, though, spared Liverpool's blushes as he converted a penalty after Diogo Jota was brought down in the area. That sealed an important win for Liverpool which means they are now top of the league after Manchester City dropped points against Newcastle.

Despite his error, Konate jokingly hit out at Neville for giving Ryan Gravenberch the player of the match award instead of him. Konate said: "Sky Sports, Sky Sports, who decided who is man of the match?

"How is this possible? It's my brother, I have to give it to him. Milan I score, today I score, I saved one, what happened? You have to talk with them whoever decided."

However, Liverpool boss Arne Slot quickly shut down Konate when asked about the defender's comments, pointing out his role in the goal Wolves scored. Slot told Sky Sports: "Konate? Ibrahima Konate?

"OK. Then he maybe forgot the moment that we conceded the goal. Maybe that was the reason why we conceded, he wasn't there at the moment because to say the least it was avoidable."
