Chandigarh: Taking a suo motu cognisance of the ``derogatory and objectionable’’ language against women used by Punjabi singers Yo Yo Honey Singh and Karan Aujla in their latest songs, the Punjab State Women’s Commission on Thursday wrote to state police to probe and take action in the matter.
Urging for a prompt legal steps against the singers, the commission chairperson Raj Lali Gill in her letter to the Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, demanded an investigation into the two songs – ``MF Gabru’’, by Aujla and ``Millionaire’’ by Honey Singh – which she held, demean women’s dignity, and take action.

She said in the letter that the investigating officer should be instructed to be present at the commission office with the action taken report on August 11. She also asked the singers to be present at the commission office on August 11.
Punjab Police Bust Cross-Border Arms Smuggling Module, Arrest Four Linked To Pakistan-Based NetworkGill, who demanded an apology from the singers, held that such language cannot be tolerated and such songs will be banned. Stating that singers are the voice of the society, she said that while on one hand they say they love their mother and on the other hand they use such abusive and offensive language for mothers in their songs.
Stating that the commission takes such matters very seriously and is committed to ensure that the rights, dignity and status of the women are protected, Gill further said in her letter that the commission, in exercise of its power under Section 12 of the Punjab State Commission for Women Act, 2001, may take suo motu cognisance of matter relating to the violation of the rights, dignity and safety of women.
