British & Irish Lions blew away the Wallabies in a one-sided match to go 1-0 up in the Test series with a 27-19 victory in Brisbane. Andy Farrell's tourists were much the better team despite a late Australia fightback to restore some pride at a sold-out Suncorp Stadium. Finn Russell kicked a penalty, landed three conversions and set up the first try in the Lions' first match in Australia for 12 years.
In truth, the scoreline courtesy of two late tries was kind on the Wallabies who only improved once the dominant Lions had put the game well out of reach. Early in the second half, a try from hooker Dan Sheehan gave the Lions a 24-5 a commanding lead before the hosts cut the margin to eight points by the full-time whistle. Australia must now win in Melbourne next week to avoid losing the series.
The Wallabies will have a week-long rest while the Lions, who are now 6-0 on their tour, take on a First Nations and Pasifika line-up on Tuesday night in Melbourne in their final tour game before the second and third tests.
