The viral parody song on Donald Trump 's claim that ' immigrants are eating cats and dogs in Ohio' has garnered over nine million views on YouTube in just 12 days.

"The streaming revenue from the song will go to Clark County SPCA . The money made from streams will help stray animals in Springfield Ohio find a loving home," the video of the song by The Kiffness says.

The singer, who has been gradually gaining a following for his uplifting songs about pets and children—because "they tend to unite people"—has experienced a surge in popularity since he took on Trump in his music.

"I think music has a powerful way of taking away negative energy and polarising feelings, especially with someone like Donald Trump, who is such a polarising figure," he told AFP.

"I want my music to unite people. And I think that's why I moved towards music that included animals. Because animals unite people," he added.

Trump had stirred controversy by alleging that Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, were kidnapping and consuming pets.

“There’s been talk that they’re eating the dogs. They’re eating the cats. They’re eating the pets of the people that live there,” Trump said.
