There's two exits looming on in an explosive twist this summer.
The departures have been in the pipeline for a while, The can reveal. Despite reports of a "shock" and "surprising" exit for two characters, bosses had planned the departures a while back - while there is a huge summer plot involving the pair on the way.
In fact, the two characters in question were always destined to leave from the moment they joined. The cast members playing them only signed short contracts, with them aware of how long they would be on the soap for from the get-go.
A Coronation Street spokesperson has now told The Mirror all about the explosive exits on the way, promising "chaos and destruction" in the lead-up and the fallout to them leaving. The characters are Mick and Lou Michaelis, played by cast members Joe Layton and Farrel Hegarty.
While viewers have been left surprised to find out the characters are both leaving less than a year after they joined, with summer exits planned for them both, Corrie insiders have revealed there's no shock to the cast and crew. Joe and Farrel both knew their stints on the soap would be relatively short and would pave the way for huge scenes ahead.

There's also still plenty to come from both of them especially villain Mick, with all the drama still to come before a plot sees them depart. When this happens, they will leave behind "a trail of destruction" that has a huge impact on those on the street.
It's said to be a "major summer storyline" that will no doubt take centre stage and lead to huge consequences for all those tied to it. Said summer plot will be how the pair bow out of the show, while details are being kept under wraps until closer to the time.
The cast members are both still filming for the show and will be for a little while yet, before their final scenes air on the soap this summer. A spokesperson told The Mirror: "This is not a surprise exit or early departure. Mick and Lou were brought into the show to cause chaos on the cobbles in the build up to a major storyline in the summer and they are already making their presence felt.
"Joe and Farrell were contracted for a specific length of time, some characters come in for a long time and some like Mick and Lou are brought to pass through and leave a trail of destruction behind them.
"Both actors are still filming with the show and will be on screen until the summer." An insider previously told The Mirror: "Joe knew from the start how long he would be on the show for. His contract length was revealed to him the moment he joined so this isn't a surprise to him or Corrie bosses.
"Mick entered the show for a specific storyline which will continue to unfold until his final scenes air later this year.
"There's plenty of twists ahead with a lot more story to come before Mick leaves the show in scenes that will air in late July."
