Cristiano Ronaldo strongly disagrees with Michael Owen over his retirement plan

Cristiano Ronaldo says he has no plans to go into coaching when he retires as a footballer - just a week after Michael Owen said he could see him managing Manchester United.

The Portuguese superstar will turn 40 in February, with many wondering just what he'll do when he hangs up his boots following his storied career.

Ronaldo has recently launched a YouTube channel and routinely makes money from endorsements as one of the most recognisable sportspeople on the planet, but Owen said he could see him moving into coaching, perhaps eventually taking over his national team as well as two of his former clubs.

“Just looking from the outside, it feels like he might want to be at the side of the pitch managing Portugal like he did at Euro 2016," Owen told Goal. “He looks like a coach, he looks like he wants to coach, so he might want to go down that route. The Portugal job, probably in the future, we might have his name on it, you never know.

"Of course, if he does well, then great teams like Manchester United, Real Madrid would then be looking at him."

However, speaking in an interview with Rio Ferdinand on his YouTube channel, Ronaldo said he didn't want to become a coach and also criticised the work ethic of the new generation of players.

"For me will be difficult one day to be a coach, because I don't have passions for this generation, it's difficult especially in football, because they don't take advice by our experience," he said.

"They think they know everything, they think the phones will give you good education, the TikTok, the Instagram. I have other things to worry about, another chapter of my life that is a business part that I'm excited about.

"It will be a challenge to me and learn other areas I don't know, be more involved in my business and I think will be good."
