Janey Godley proud to support trans community as she hits back at vile trolls amid end-of-life care

Comic Janey Godley has hit out at vile trolls who have attacked her as she enters palliative care three years on from her ovarian cancer diagnosis.

The Scottish comedian also hit back at Father Ted creator Graham Linehan, who had also been critical of Janey over her support of the LGBTQ+ community. After days of receiving vile messages from transphobic critics on social media as she receives end-of-life care, Janey also posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that she will always supports the trans community.

On Saturday, the 63-year-old wrote in response to a troll who had hit out her: "It doesn’t matter how many transphobes attack me in the last stages of my life, I won’t become them. I won’t think how they think - it’s a waste of their time banging on at me - I’m not going to be one of them."

Janey then doubled down on this by adding: "I’m so happy I support trans people." This followed a fiery response to Graham Lineham, who had posted a message about Janey receiving end of life care, which had also seen many others share their thoughts. One posted: "Transphobes are praising Graham Linehan for this first tweet about Janey Godley, whereas a few months ago, when he knew she had terminal cancer, he was encouraging his followers to call her a "thick racist." And the last two tweets prove he was revelling in doing that for years."

The Father Ted creator had posted previously: "I understand Janey Godley is in palliative care. I'm obviously not a fan of her stance on The Issue but I hope her doctors are able to keep her comfortable and, if there's the slightest chance, get her through this." Janey then hit back and replied: "You sent your hounds after me continuously throughout my cancer care. I will keep supporting transpeople as long as I can -keep my name out please."

Earlier this month, Janey cancelled her comedy tour, called Why Is She Still Here?, after doctors advised her to stop work "for the foreseeable future" after they discovered her terminal cancer had spread. Janey has been in hospital while recovering from sepsis, when she shared a devastating update on her health battle. She wrote on X: "I’m now at end of life care - palliative care-and will be going into a hospice for the foreseeable - thanks to everyone who sends me love and support- you’ve been amazing."

The comedian continued: "So I’m now in palliative care and I’m at end-of-life care now in the hospital. The chemo ran out of options and I just couldn’t take any more of it and the cancer has spread. So it looks like this will be getting to near the end of it and it’s really difficult to speak about this and say to people. It is devastating news to know that I’m facing end-of-life but we all come to an end sometime. I want to thank everybody for supporting the family, especially [her daughter] Ashley and my husband."

Janey added: "The overwhelming support has been amazing, and I don’t know how long I’ve got left before anybody asks. I’m not a TikTok. So I just want you to know that I appreciate all the love you’ve gave me and all the support. Cancer affects two in one people, and it’s affected me."
