Jay Blades reveals he has quit major role after being charged with controlling behaviour

Send Push

Jay Blades has resigned from one of his major roles after being charged with controlling and coercive behaviour.

In news which shocked The Repair Shop fans, the presenter, 54, appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates' court on Friday to face one charge against his estranged wife, Lisa Zbozen.

Following his court appearance, it was reported the Brent-born star has quit his role with one of the King’s charities in the wake of the charges against him. It confirmed yesterday: “Jay Blades has informed us of his resignation from the ambassador role.”

Jay was appointed building crafts ambassador for the charity, then the Prince’s Foundation, in July 2020 when King Charles was the Prince of Wales. The charity offers “inspiring training programmes which aim to help preserve traditional building craft skills”. His departure from the role was reported by the Sun.

Dad-of-three, Jay, made an MBE in 2021 and who greeted the King on a Repair Shop special in 2022, said at the time: “I am honoured to be invited to be an ambassador for The Prince’s Foundation. HRH The Prince of Wales’s vision of creating harmonious sustainable communities is a passion very close to my heart. Championing a sustainable approach to how we live our lives, build our homes and teach traditional arts and crafts are fundamental in all aspects of my philosophy.”

Jay looked a world away from his TV persona when he appeared at court on Friday, sporting a long pink puffer jacket, hoodie and jogging bottoms.

The presenter was arrested on May 3, the same day his wife Lisa made public her decision to end their 18-month marriage. The dad-of-three is accused of physical and emotional abuse towards her between January 1, 2023 and September 12, 2024.

A spokeswoman for West Mercia Police said: “54-year-old Jason Blades of Claverley in Wolverhampton has been charged with controlling and coercive behaviour.”

Jay was bailed on the condition he does not contact Lisa directly or indirectly. He will next appear at Worcester Crown Court on October 11.

Following the news, Lisa broke her silence with a post on social media. She shared a news article that stated Jay had been charged with controlling or coercive behaviour.

The Repair Shop, which Jay has presented for seven years, is made independently by Ricochet and sold to the BBC. Regarding the presenter's future on the show an insider at the broadcaster told The Sun : “Decisions on who does and doesn’t feature in shows made by indies is entirely up to them. But it can’t be clearer - the Beeb won’t feature any new shows in which he appears, until it is clear how legal proceedings conclude.”
