Major airline quietly introduces new baggage fees as passengers vow 'never again'

Passengers are only allowed to bring a small personal bag on board free of charge unless they upgrade to Priority boarding, which allows an additional large cabin bag, or fork out extra for a checked-in bag.

Previously, Ryanair charged between £11.99 and £29.99 to add a 10kg check-in bag at the time of booking, or between £23.99 and £35.99 to do so afterwards or at the airport on the day of the flight. However, the 'fees' list on the airline's website now states that passengers can expect to pay between £9.49 and £44.99 to add a 10kg check-in bag at the time of booking, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The exact cost depends on the route and date of travel, meaning some passengers may pay slightly less than before, However, those paying the higher charge will now pay £15 more.

Ryanair has sneakily ramped up the fees for adding luggage to your flight, with the price for slapping a 10kg hold bag on post-booking or at the airport now ranging from £23.99 to a whopping £44.99 – that's an increase of up to £9. But it's not all bad news, as some travellers might breathe a sigh of relief to find the cost for a 20kg check-in bag post-booking has dipped at the lower end, now kicking off from £39.99 instead of £44.99, although the top price sticks at £59.99.

The airline kept schtum when Birmingham Live reached out about the price tweaks, but its website spells it out: "Fee varies depending on the route and travel dates selected. Non-priority customers who have not added a bag to their booking can still purchase a 10kg check-in bag at the airport bag drop desk for €/£ 35.99-€/£40. Non-priority customers who bring their 10kg Check-in bag to the boarding gate may check it in against payment of a fee of €/£ 46.00 - €/£ 60.00."

Just last week, Birmingham Live also shone a light on Ryanair bumping up the price range for Priority boarding upgrades, which now hovers between £20 and £60. This cheeky move has got under the skin of many a traveller, with folks taking to social media to air their grievances.

One particularly peeved flyer, @micha4768 on X, let rip over the charges: "OMG @Ryanair 40 quid for a 10kg hold bag, absolutely disgusting price wouldn't have been so bad for a 22kg hold, but that is DISGUSTING. I'll never again fly with you."

Airline customers took to Twitter to vent their vexation, with EddieHa35418086 asking, "@Ryanair why are baggage charges so high? " While @Sickboy_Mcsatan aired his disapproval by suggesting, "Just avoid Ryanair if you can, they make EasyJet seem luxurious and customer friendly. They charge extra for *every* little thing, I'll never use them again if there's an alternative."

On the brighter side, @IMegy71 chimed in with some optimism: "I bet it is still cheaper on Ryanair than other airlines, even with the additional charge."
