Man orders vodka and Coke in Turkey but is 'gobsmacked' when he gets the bill

A man said he has been left stunned at the steep price hikes at one of his favourite European holiday destinations.

The usually bustling resort of Marmaris in Turkey has seen a noticeable dip in tourists this year, with many holidaymakers sharing their thoughts on TikTok about the noticeable quietness. It's being suggested that this downturn is directly related to the soaring costs that have hit tourists this season.

Known as @marmarislovers on TikTok, the man appears to work in tourism, and claimed he thinks "Marmaris will have no tourists in 2025". The cost of visiting the area has just proved too much for people, according to the content creator. He spoke of his dismay, saying: "This season has been so quiet, it's sad to see. Also 2025 has 15 per cent price increase again. Vodka and Coke already £15 alone. Can go Dubai for same price."

His video left viewers gobsmacked with many unable to fathom just how pricey Marmaris has become. While some commented saying they saw the rise in prices coming during their past visits, reports Birmingham Live. A woman said this trend "has been going on for 20 years" and has sworn off returning. Yet, there are some who think the costs aren't all that outrageous.

In the comments section, one person said: "I'm here right now. The money I've spent here, I could have done a banging 10/10 Thailand holiday." Another tourist shared their shock at Dalaman Airport saying: "Dalaman Airport. Burger King meal for two was 40 Euros." Another person added to the conversation: "It's such a shame for Turkey. I've been going years, but won't be going again."

While another added: "Been going 16 years. Sadly last year for us - June was a fortune." While some holidaymakers have moaned about their costly experiences in Turkey, several tourists have painted a different picture with tales of finding good deals on drinks.

One Brit took to social media, saying: "I'd love to know where this £15 vodka and Coke is. I've been paying like 250 lira (£5.60) for two." Another added their voice, saying: "I'm literally just back from Turkey. Going back again in October for 10 days, then booked again for next year in July. Then hopefully again in October next year too."

And one long-time fan stated: "Turkey is the best place. Been going for 25 years. Amazing, clean and people can't do enough. Respect the country and people."
