Netflix sensation Maria Pedraza is almost unrecognisable in her latest acting gig. The Spanish starlet is set to feature in the BBC's upcoming second series of The Famous Five, which is currently under production.

Maria, 28, is best known for her role in the popular Netflix series Money Heist. She portrayed Alison Parker in the show's debut season, which premiered in 2017.

At just 21 years old, Maria took on the character of the British ambassador of Spain's daughter, who was taken hostage during the heist at the Royal Mint of Spain. Despite her character being a key part of the first season's storyline, Maria did not return for subsequent seasons of Money Heist.

After her stint on Money Heist, Maria landed a role in the Spanish TV series Elite. She played Marina Nunier Osuna in the show's inaugural season.

The actress has also appeared in films such as Las ninas de cristal, Awareness and El Correo, and features in the TV series Toy Boy as Triana Marin, reports the Manchester Evening News.

She's now gearing up to appear in the second season of The Famous Five. Maria will be joining the cast alongside Amir Wilson and James Wilby, with the new series currently in development.

The BBC released new promotional images on 16 September, showcasing Maria in character as Gabriela. The role Gabriela will play in the show, which is based on Enid Blyton's beloved books, has yet to be disclosed.

Maria dazzles in a majestic dress and stunning makeup in the new promo shot, looking into the distance from a doorway. She's a far cry from her Money Heist character, rocking red lips and her hair styled in voluminous curls.

The second instalment of The Famous Five will welcome back Diaana Babnicova as George, with Elliott Rose as Julian, Kit Rakusen playing Dick, and Flora Jacoby Richardson as Anne. Joining them is Kip, the Bearded Collie Cross starring as Timmy the dog.

Jack Gleeson, James Lance, and Ann Akinjirin are set to return too.

In series two, the gang encounters fresh hurdles as they navigate life in wartime, maturing along the way.

Tensions mount between Julian and George, Dick strives for courage, Anne grows in confidence, and Timmy frets over food shortages.

James Lance, returning as Uncle Quentin, shared his excitement: "'I am delighted to be back playing Uncle Quentin in The Famous Five. This series is a gem. It is a privilege to be working with our wonderful cast with the sweetest co-star, dear Kip who plays Timmy the dog as we follow him on these magical adventures."

The Famous Five series 1 is available on BBC iPlayer.
