NFL star restrained by staff after heated argument with head coach on sidelines

Send Push

Jalen Carter, the Philadelphia Eagles' defensive tackle, didn't hold back as he let loose during the dying moments of their Week 3 triumph over the New Orleans Saints.

Despite a nail-biting start that saw them trailing by three points entering the final quarter, the Eagles clawed their way to a narrow 15-12 win at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, boosting their season record to 2-1. With less than a minute left on the clock, Carter made it his mission to remind the visiting crowd who was boss.

The FOX Sports cameras caught every second of Carter's fiery sideline antics as he taunted the Saints' supporters. Commentator Greg Olsen noted that Carter had been locked in a verbal tussle with Saints defensive backs Tyrann Mathieu and Marshon Lattimore earlier in the game.

Carter's tirade seemed to ruffle some feathers within his own team, with several Eagles members trying to de-escalate the situation. Head coach Nick Sirianni, along with defensive line coach Clint Hurtt and equipment manager "Big Dom" DiSandro, all stepped in to try and cool down the heated player.

Despite their efforts, including Sirianni getting up close and personal to urge Carter to ease off the trash talk, and Hurtt and DiSandro attempting to physically restrain him, Carter was relentless in his outburst.

Carter's behaviour drew the attention of Mathieu, who quickly approached an official, signalling for a penalty flag. Just moments before, Carter had gestured and shouted towards the Saints' defenders.

Fortunately, the situation didn't escalate further, with both teams retreating to their locker rooms without any additional incidents.

Despite the fiery end to the match, Carter had plenty to celebrate after helping to halt one of the NFL's most potent offenses. He ended the game with three solo tackles - two of which were for losses - as well as deflecting two passes and landing a hit on quarterback Derek Carr.

The Eagles' offense managed to secure a victory despite missing several key players. A.J. Brown was ruled out before the game due to a hamstring injury, while fellow receiver DeVonta Smith had to leave the field with a concussion after making seven catches for 79 yards.

With Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts' top two targets absent, running back Saquon Barkley stepped up, ending the game with 147 yards and two touchdowns from 17 carries. As for Hurts, he completed 29 of his 38 pass attempts for 311 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception.

The Philadelphia Eagles or the NFL have yet to decide on any disciplinary action for Carter's erratic sideline behaviour. Despite this, he seemed cheerful after the game, even revealing with a broad smile that he had given his chain to Reed Blankenship as a gift following the safety's game-winning interception.
