Send Push

Pointless presenter Alexander Armstrong has expressed his thoughts as he goes head-to-head with his former co-star.

Appearing on ITV's Lorraine on Thursday (September 12), the 54-year-old promoted his new book, Evenfall- The Golden Linnet. The children's debut has been described as a modern classic for children aged 9-12, which includes adventure, ancient magic, secret societies and more.

But Alexander's book will butt heads with Richard Osman, who previously appeared alongside him on BBC gameshow, Pointless as he has also released a book too. The novel, We Solve Murders is the first book in a new series by Richard and is coming out on the same day as Alexander's.

Introducing the TV star to the show and his new fictional tale, Lorraine Kelly said: "Alexander Armstrong releasing his first ever children's book. It's called Evenfall- The Golden Linnet and he joins me now.

"And Alexander it's coming out the same day as Richard Osman's. It's not good timing."

Alexander replied: "Well, I don't know." He then went on to share how supportive Richard has been towards him throughout the years and with his new release.

He added: "I mean Richard has been there as a real guiding light the whole way through. He's been such a help and support."

Richard and Alexander were seen together almost on a daily basis on the BBC quiz show, Pointless. Presented by Alexander, Richard was the host's wingman as he dished out answers and facts throughout the game.

Richard was a part of the Pointless lineup from when the show first began in 2009. But in 2022, he decided to hang up his boots.

He told fans at the time: "Pointless has been a joy from start to finish, working alongside my friend Alexander Armstrong, backed by the most wonderful team, and for the best viewers in the world. I will miss everyone so much, but I’m thrilled that I’ll still be presenting the celebrity shows. I can’t thank everyone enough for 12 amazing years."

In previous tweets at the time, Richard indicated that his departure was partly due to the roaring success of his bestselling crime novels, The Thursday Murder Club and The Man Who Died Twice. It was also reported that the film rights of the former were purchased by Steven Spielberg’s production company, Amblin Entertainment.

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV1.
