Send Push

Critcism over amid the Sentebale charity row has divided opinion today.

The Duchess of Sussex, 43, has been branded "a narcissist" following . One media personality, the former culture secretary Nadine Dorries, has now weighed in with her opinion - and she too has slammed Meghan.

In fact, Ms Dorries, 67, says in a savage newspaper column, Prince Harry's behaviour in the saga is, in part, because he is "an enabler" of Meghan's behaviour, and she has "manipulated" him. Her critique, however, has split opinion online, with some Meghan fans condemning Ms Dorries, who hasn't been in parliament for nearly two years.

Writing online, one Meghan fan said Ms Dorries' "resurrection" did not wash with them. They added: "You’re not popular love, you never were. Too late." Another posted online: "Does it matter about Dorries' disapproval??" A third shared: "Not a trace of irony from Mrs Dorries."

Ms Dorries, who was MP for Mid Bedfordshire for the until August 2023, wrote for : "I think it may have been who was the first to suggest that Meghan was a narcissist, and he has since said it repeatedly. I’m afraid to say, I agree with him. And herein I believe lies the explanation for Harry’s – at times inexplicable – behaviour.

"That is not to excuse the prince in any way. He is an adult – a 40-year-old father of two – with agency and perspective. But how can he have tolerated some of Meghan’s more questionable actions?"

When Harry quit his role, Sentebale chair . She referred to people who "play the victim card and use the very press they disdain, to harm people who have the courage to challenge their conduct" in the scathing statement following the prince's announcement on Tuesday.

Neither Harry or Meghan were named in the statement but it has been widely reported the criticism was aimed at the , at least. Ms Dorries, though, said the carping could be extended further.

The author, originally from Liverpool, added: "Secretly I have always felt that there is only one excuse left for Harry’s behaviour, all others having been plundered. Is he the ‘flying monkey’ – that’s a psychological term used to describe someone who enables, or defends and excuses, the behaviour of a narcissist – to Meghan?

"The term comes from The Wizard Of Oz in which the Wicked Witch put flying monkeys under her spell. Flying monkeys are those people who will defend a narcissist; who will justify and explain away their behaviour while not seeing or understanding what is happening around them. Typically, such enablers have personality flaws of their own, are needy and easily taken in by narcissists, who can be charming and effusive if it suits their manipulative purpose or draws attention."

But, biting back, more Meghan fans expressed their ire at the column. One person posted: "Pot, kettle, black." Another shared: "It's a bit rich for Nads (Nadine Dorries) to accuse Meghan of being a narcissist! The words pot and kettle come to mind."

Some backed Ms Dorries, though, including one who stated: "Totally, totally agree with Nadine, excellent observations." Another posted: "For once, I totally agree with Nadine. H (Harry) needs to wake up and sort himself out."
