Real Madrid star gives £30m wonderkid Endrick new nickname in honour of Man Utd legend

Real Madrid star Rodrygo has revealed the club's stars have begun calling team-mate Endrick 'Bobby' after the wonderkid shared his love for Bobby Charlton.

Endrick spoke of his admiration for the England and Manchester United legend before playing for Brazil at Wembley in March. He made a big impression that day, scoring his first senior international goal to give the Selecao a 1-0 win.

At that stage, the youngster had already agreed his Real Madrid move, but he didn't join his new employers until he turned 18 this summer. And, since moving to Spain, he has been welcomed by new colleagues with that brand new nickname.

England and Madrid star Jude Bellingham posted the 'Bobby' nickname in response to an Instagram post from Endrick after the Super Cup. And now Rodrygo - one of the Madrid stars who knew Endrick before his move - has told the full story.

“Now he's Bobby. He's not Endrick anymore," Rodrygo told ESPN Brasil (via Goal). "He's caught on to that joke.

"The reception he's had there (at Real Madrid) is good, not just from the Brazilians. We have a very good group at Real, and it's no different with him.

"We know his quality and how he can help us. He's become Bobby, that's it. He's taking it easy. There's nothing he can do, if he gets angry it's worse!”

Endrick made his Real Madrid debut in August, scoring from the bench in a 3-0 victory over Valladolid. Carlo Ancelotti has been patient with the new arrival so far, though, making him wait for a first start, but was impressed by his instant impact.

"He's looking very good and he has a lot of potential," Madrid's manager said after the Valladolid game. "He has shown his quality very quickly with his control and he's got a very powerful shot. He's a centre forward and very dangerous in tight spaces".

Real Madrid are back in action on Saturday with an away game against a Real Sociedad side with just four points so far this term. After that comes a first Champions League outing of the season against last year's Bundesliga runners-up Stuttgart.

The Stuttgart game could represent a first taste of continental European football for Endrick. He was an unused substitute as the Champions League holders beat reigning Europa League champions Atalanta 2-0, with Fede Valverde and summer signing Kylian Mbappe getting the goals for Ancelotti's team.
