Richard Osman has confirmed filming has now finished for the Netflix adaptation of his best-selling The Thursday Murder Club novels. The author and presenter spoke to Capital Breakfast where he gave the latest updates on the film's progress.

He also revealed the film is expected to be released next year, before sharing how Pierce Brosnan’s handsomeness "caused chaos" on set.

The star said: "So literally they’re finishing filming today. So, it’s been filming all across the summer.

"Chris Columbus, who did the Harry Potter movies and Home Alone and what have you, so he’s done it. Pierce Brosnan is in it, Sir Ben Kingsley, Helen Mirren, Celia Imrie, so it’s got this great cast; Spielberg is producing.

"I’m not involved with it, my job is writing the books. But I go down occasionally because it’s quite fun and showbiz to hang out there. But yeah, they’ve been filming it all summer, so it will be out next year I think.”

He joked about how he had formed a close bond with Steven Spielberg, nicknaming him "Big Steve or Spielberg.”

The film was shot in Buckinghamshire and Capital host Sian Welby chimed in: "And the people of Buckinghamshire, I mean it has been popping off in all the Facebook groups because they’ve been seeing helicopters landing and they’ve seen Pierce Brosnan at the end of the drive.

"You shut down the Red Lion pub at one point, didn’t you? The roads have been closed, Richard. You’ve caused chaos!”

Richard explained it was the James Bond star's looks that had in fact "caused chaos".

He shared: "Shall I tell you what? I’ll tell you what really causes chaos is how handsome Pierce Brosnan is. Oh my goodness!

"It is extraordinary to be within three feet of the guy, and he’s also incredibly lovely as well, so you can’t even resent him.

"He smells rich, he’s just… Everything about him. I think he lives in Malibu and Hawaii, and he brought his 92-year-old mum to the set, who is a former nurse. And he couldn’t have been nicer to the crew. I mean, he’s just, I mean, what a dream man, right!”

The Thursday Murder Club will air on Netflix
