Rio Ferdinand tipped for TNT exit as new surprise job emerges

Former star Rio Ferdinand is reportedly set to depart from TNT Sports' Premier League and Champions League coverage this summer, having decided against renewing his contract with the broadcaster.

reports that current deal with TNT (previously BT Sport) is due to run out at the end of this season. Despite being offered an extension by the broadcaster, the 46-year-old ex-England international has yet to put pen-to-paper.

Ferdinand, often the lead voice on football coverage, is considered one of TNT Sports' top pundits, leaving the broadcaster potentially scrambling for a suitable replacement.

Wayne Rooney, Ferdinand's former teammate, could be a possible candidate, having recently worked with various broadcasters. However, the former striker may still harbour managerial ambitions following an unsuccessful spell at Plymouth Argyle which concluded on New Year's Eve.

As for Ferdinand, a switch to American football coverage could be in the pipeline.

The United legend's management company recently inked a deal with William Morris Endeavor (WME), who represent a host of American stars, including Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds, from their Beverly Hills base.

The popularity of Premier League football in the USA is on the rise, but it's only recently that big-name pundits have started to make their mark.

CBS Sports has received a lot of positive feedback for their show featuring Kate Scott, Thierry Henry, and , while NBC Sports has enlisted for select matches this season.

Ferdinand might be eyeing up a piece of the action, especially with the 2026 World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico expected to attract a new audience to the sport in North America.

At present, TNT Sports boasts a line-up including Paul Scholes, Robbie Savage, Peter Crouch, Karen Carney, Joe Cole and Ally McCoist for their coverage.
