Ruud van Nistelrooy makes pointed plea to Ruben Amorim over keeping his Man Utd job

Ruud van Nistelrooy has reiterated his desire to remain at when officially takes over as head coach.

is currently in interim charge following the , with boss Amorim set to . And Van Nistelrooy is hoping to be part of Amorim's coaching staff, having returned to United over the summer as one of Ten Hag's assistants.

When asked about his future by former United teammate , Van Nistelrooy told : "Before I came to United I was looking to manage, no doubt about that.

"When United came in with this opportunity, for me, it was a fantastic opportunity. I wanted to be here and I put that [management ambitions] aside. For me, that was a deliberate decision to come here and help out.

"I just want to stay and do the same thing and, for me, that's my focus for the moment." The makeup of Amorim's backroom setup is yet to be confirmed, with the from Sporting.

However, Van Nistelrooy is clearly keen to remain at Old Trafford and United defender Diogo Dalot has revealed the players . "I think he has that quality," Dalot told Sky Sports.

"Obviously, it's not going to be my decision, but I really like the way that he approaches as an assistant. He is obviously now in an interim job, he has the capacity to do it because he was a head coach.

"So he has this ability of being on both sides, he knows how to do each part and then obviously if the club decides, I will be more than happy to have him here. I think he's trying to obviously win, that's the biggest thing for him.

"But he's also trying to make himself feel good, give good energy for the people that are watching. The fans have to come to Old Trafford and be excited about the game, at least know we are giving everything for the club."
