On Friday, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor emphasized that terrorism will not silence India as he prepared to embark on a diplomatic mission to five nations. In a video shared on X, he announced, "I am departing for Guyana, Panama, Colombia, Brazil, and the United States, leading an all-party delegation to advocate for our nation and address the severe crisis we faced due to terrorist attacks. This mission is crucial to convey our stance against such brutality."
A Call for Global Awareness
Tharoor underscored the importance of highlighting India's core values during this trip. He stated, "We must articulate our position with clarity and determination, ensuring the world understands that we will not be intimidated by terrorism. We seek to prevent indifference from overshadowing the truth. This is a mission rooted in peace and hope, reminding the global community that India embodies the values of democracy, freedom, and peace, rather than hatred and violence. Jai Hind!"
Delegation's Itinerary and Goals
The delegation, which includes Tharoor and other MPs from Group 5, will engage with officials and the public in the United States, Guyana, Panama, Brazil, and Colombia. They were briefed by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on the objectives of this outreach, aimed at raising awareness about India's position on terrorism. Tharoor noted, "We will interact with government representatives, legislators, think tanks, and media to foster understanding and support for India’s perspective."
Unified Stance Against Terrorism
The all-party delegation aims to present a unified Indian front against terrorism, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy. Alongside Tharoor, the group includes BJP members Shashank Mani Tripathi, Bhubaneswar Kalita, and Tejasvi Surya, as well as representatives from other parties, including LJP, TDP, and Shiv Sena, along with former US Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
