The real problems of users

A Canadian woman named Brittany Watson's Facebook account was closed for nine days in May. She said, "It was not just an app, it was a way to connect with my memories, friends and mental health support groups." Despite her appeal, Meta did not give her any concrete reason.

John Dale, who runs a local news group in London, also had his account suddenly suspended. Since he was the sole admin, new posts are no longer allowed in that group and old posts have also been deleted.

Michelle DeMello, who is associated with digital marketing, says that the shutdown of both Facebook and Instagram had a direct impact on her income. Her account was restored the very next day after BBC contacted her, but she says that "a big company like Meta should provide a human support system to help users."

Sam Toal, a 21-year-old from England, said his Instagram profile was shut down and a response to his appeal came in just two minutes, leading him to believe the matter was handled by AI.

Growing opposition

So far, more than 25,000 people have signed an online petition demanding accountability from Meta. Thousands of people are discussing the issue on Reddit and social media, and some have even planned collective legal action against Meta.
