BMW R 12 nineT and R 12 motorcycles launched in India: Gets 1,170cc boxer twin-cylinder engine

BMW Motorrad India today announced the launch of BMW R 12 and R 12 nineT motorcycles in the Indian market. The R 12 is priced at Rs 19.90 lakh and the R 12 nineT is priced at Rs 20.20 lakh (both prices ex-showroom). Both bikes will be bought in India via CBU (a completely built-up unit). Interested customers can book the bike at all BMW Motorrad India-authorised dealerships from today and the deliveries are slated to begin from September 2024.

First let's talk about the R12, in terms of design the cruiser takes inspiration from the bigger R18 Transcontinental cruiser. It features a raked front end, a single-seat setup, and a tubular handlebar. It also gets bar end mirrors with dual exhaust pipes. The cruiser gets rebound-adjustable USD front forks at the front and a preload-adjustable mono-shock at the rear. It also receives a steering stabiliser.

The motorcycle rides on 19-inch front alloy wheel wrapped up in 100/90 section tyres and 16-inch rear alloy wheels wrapped in 150/80 rear tyres. In terms of features, the R12 gets keyless tech, multiple ride modes, traction control, ABS, TPMS and more. Additionally, customers can also opt for features such as hill start control, heated grips, cruise control and comfort Package.

Talking about the R12 nineT, it features a retro design with a modern touch which makes it look unique. It features a boxy, aluminium tank with brushed and clear-coated side panels and peashooter-style dual exhausts. The main highlights here are the spoke wheels which give it that retro look and cylinder heads which make it look more bulky. The bike is based on a tubular bridge steel frame and suspension duties are taken care of by 45mm USD forks and a paralever swingarm with a directly linked spring strut at the rear.


In terms of features, the nineT gets cornering ABS, traction control, engine drag torque control, keyless tech, multiple riding modes and TPMS. Here too, customers can opt for additional features such as
Hill Start Control Pro, Shift Assistant Pro, heated grips, cruise control and comfort package.

Both motorcycles are powered by a 1,170cc, air/oil-cooled boxer twin engine with 101 mm bore and 73 mm stroke. In R12 nineT the motor puts out 109bhp at 7,000rpm and 115Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. In the R12 it delivers out 95bhp at 6,500rpm and 110Nm of peak torque at 6,000rpm.
