Send Push
Smartphone giant Xiaomi is set to debut its Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan in India on July 9, 2024. However, it should be noted that this is not an official unveil. Instead, the EV will be showcased in Bengaluru exclusively to partners, employees and the general public. The SU7 EV was launched in China earlier this year at a starting price of 2,15,900 Yuan (approximately Rs 24.90 lakh). It comes in four variants: an entry-level model, a Pro variant, a Max version, and a limited Founders Edition.

The SU7 features a sleek and futuristic design. It measures 4,997 mm in length, 1,963 mm in width, and up to 1,455 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. Xiaomi offers the SU7 with two battery options: a 73.6 kWh pack for the entry-level variants and a larger 101 kWh pack for the top model, both providing a minimum range of 700 km per charge.

The top-end Max variant boasts a top speed of 265 kmph and can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in a mere 2.78 seconds. This variant also offers a remarkable range of up to 810 km on a single charge.

SU7 India unveil: Xiaomi to taste success in the Indian EV market reminiscent of the smartphone market?

The unveiling of the Xiaomi SU7 in India comes at a time when the Indian EV market is experiencing significant growth. This surge is fueled by government incentives, rising fuel prices, and a growing awareness of environmental issues.

Although this is just a showcase and Xiaomi has not confirmed the SU7's arrival in India, entering the Indian market would be challenging. Unlike the smartphone market, the EV segment is tougher due to established local players. To compete, Xiaomi would need to lower costs through localization. However, we have already seen other Chinese companies like BYD and GWM faced investment rejections from the Indian government due to border tensions between the two countries. Therefore, Xiaomi's success in the Indian EV market is uncertain if they decide to enter.
