Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], October 15 (ANI): Gujarat police department organised garba night to the officers and their families in a bid to ensure a memorable Navratri for the personnel who were otherwise busy with duties during the festival season.
The celebrations were held on Monday evening under the leadership of Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik.
Speaking on occasion, DCP Malik extended festival greetings to the officers and expressed happiness over increased participation of officers along with their families.
"The police are usually busy in performing their duties during the Navratri festival. The event was organized so that they could come here and have fun with their families. A lot of them have come here with their families today," DCP Malik said while speaking to ANI.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Safin Hasan expressed appreciation that such an event was organised for the personnel.
"The police worked very hard in ensuring the safety of the people during Navratri season. We are enjoying the event and are happy that it was organized," he said.
The celebrations witnessed participation of police personnel along with their family and friends in large numbers. Attendees were seen in colorful ethnic wear in the event. Many senior officers along with their family attended the celebrations.
Apart from the garba night, cultural programmes including music concert was also organised. Gujarati singer Aishwarya Majumdar along with her team performed at the event.
Bhakti Gandecha, a female police personnel said "We were working during the festive season also. I am really glad that they organized the event for us since the festival is very important to us."
"We are really happy that CP sir thought about us and organized the event for us. We are enjoying the event," Roshni Dave, another police personnel said.
Navratri, which means 'nine nights' in Sanskrit, is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga and her nine avatars, known as Navdurga.
The festival is celebrated with great devotion across India, with rituals and prayers honouring the goddess in her various forms. (ANI)
