Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], September 14 (ANI): Mulund police have registered a case on Saturday and are investigating a fire that led to the death of a 68-year-old woman in the Mulund area of Mumbai.
The deceased, identified as Anandi Mugdal, lived with her husband in the LBS Marg area. On Friday afternoon, neighbours alerted the fire brigade and Mulund police after smoke was seen coming from their house around noon. Her husband was not at home at that time.
Firefighters arrived promptly and brought under control the blaze that broke out on the 9th floor of Opal Apartment, a 16-story residential building near the Sonapur signal on LBS Road in Mulund (West).
According to police, Anandi, who had been ill for several days, sustained severe burns in the incident. She was rushed to Agarwal Hospital in Mulund, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.

"Preliminary investigation indicates that the woman has committed suicide," a police officer said.
Police have filed a case under Accidental Death Report.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported that the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) was alerted at 12:24 pm. Fire officials confined the blaze to the 9th floor and began their dousing operations.
In a related incident, a fire on September 7 in Mumbai's Kurla area injured three people. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation reported that all trapped individuals were safely rescued, and the fire was brought under control. (ANI)
