Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy bowled brilliant spells and became responsible for CSK's lowest total at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in the history of the . While Chakravarthy finished with figures of 4-0-22-2, Narine returned to form and claimed 3/13 in his spell of 4 overs after dropping a sitter to let Vijay Shankar bat a few more deliveries.
Narine and Chakravarthy's partnership worked well for KKR, as the duo ran through the CSK middle order. The Indian spinner was the first to begin the party as he finally dismissed Shankar, who got 2 lives. What followed was a peach of a delivery from Narine, which helped him get rid of Rahul Tripathi.

Wickets kept falling in every over in the second half of CSK's innings. Narine operated in tighter line and length, and dismissed Ravindra Jadeja through a caught behind dismissal. As wickets fell at regular intervals, CSK was forced to send Deepak Hooda as the impact substitute, a move which did not go well for them.
