India has become the fastest-growing market for OpenAI’s ChatGPT, the company’s chief operating officer Brad Lightcap posted on X.
The previous day, OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman also shared a similar post, stating that India is emerging as a global leader in artificial intelligence (AI) adoption.
The comment came after the AI model crossed 130 million users due to the surge in new Ghibli-style image-generation features among the masses.
OpenAI's Lightcap said that users have generated over 700 million images since March 27.
With OpenAI's new image-generation feature, ChatGPT users are unleashing a wave of creativity, sharing Japanese Ghibli-style artwork from detailed prompts.
This has also sparked a surge in user-generated content, with memes spreading rapidly across social media platforms, adding to the growing online buzz.
During a February visit to New Delhi, Altman interacted with Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, stating that India has the potential to become a leader in the AI revolution while also praising the country’s technological ecosystem.
The ministry of electronics and information technology (Meity) has been allocated Rs 551.75 crore in the Union Budget 2024-25 to enhance AI infrastructure, including the procurement of high-performance Graphic Processing Units (GPUs).
The IndiaAI mission is a key enabler to build a robust AI computing infrastructure in India and the AI ecosystem.
ET reported that companies like Reliance Jio, E2E, NxtGen, Locuz, and CtrlS, which were the lowest price (L1) bidders in the IndiaAI Mission tender for acquiring GPUs, are expected to receive AI workloads by the second week of April.
