A blast occurred near Naushera village in Punjab's Amritsar rural district early Tuesday, leaving one person seriously injured, according to news agency ANI.
Police suspect the explosion may have been triggered during an attempt to recover a consignment of explosives by anti-national elements.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amritsar Rural, Maninder Singh, police were alerted in the morning about an explosion in the area under the jurisdiction of Kambo police station. Officers rushed to the scene, where they found one individual seriously wounded.
“We suspect the injured person is one of the accused who came to retrieve a consignment and mishandled an explosive,” said SSP Singh, adding that such abandoned areas have previously been used by anti-national actors for similar purposes.
The injured has been admitted to a hospital, and forensic science laboratory (FSL) teams are en route to examine the site. Authorities are investigating the possibility of a terror-related link, though no official confirmation has been provided yet.
