Gurgaon horror: Young techie couple found dead in apartment, police probe suspected murder-suicide

Send Push
A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday evening in Sector 37, Gurgaon, when police discovered the bodies of a young software engineer couple, Ajay Kumar and Sweety Sharma, in their rented apartment at The Millennia. Preliminary reports suggest that the husband may have strangled his wife before taking his own life.

Relationship Strains Despite Attempts to Reunite

Ajay, originally from Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, and Sweety, from West Bengal, had been married since 2023 after years of courtship. According to family sources, their marriage faced difficulties early on, leading them to live apart for a year before deciding to reunite.

“Even after moving back in together, the quarrels continued,” Sweety’s mother told TOI. She recounted that the couple often argued despite working at different companies after their reunion.

Video Message Raises Alarm

On Sunday, Ajay reportedly sent a video message to friends declaring his intention to end his life. Alarmed, his friends contacted his relatives in UP, who then reached out to family members in Delhi.

Police were called to the apartment after relatives failed to make contact with the couple. The main door was found locked from the inside. Upon breaking in, the authorities discovered both Ajay and Sweety dead in the same room.

“In one part of the video that Ajay Kumar shared with his friends, he can be heard saying that he killed Sweety. He then reveals his plans to end his life too,” a police official told TOI.

Last Conversation with Daughter

Sweety’s mother recounted their final phone conversation around noon on Sunday. Sweety mentioned that Ajay was fixing a bookshelf and she advised him to consult the flat owner before drilling into the wall. “The call ended with Sweety promising to call back, but she never did,” her mother said, according to TOI.

“She kept calling her, almost thirty times, but her phone was switched off. I tried Ajay as well, but he did not answer. I sensed something was wrong,” she added.

Families React to the Tragedy

Ajay’s father works as an electrician in Prayagraj, while Sweety’s father runs a furniture business in West Bengal. Deepak Gupta, Ajay’s maternal cousin, shared details from the video message, noting that Ajay spoke about hopes for a happy family and plans for children before mentioning his extreme decision, TOI reported.

“By the time we got the call and reached the flat with police, it was too late. Ajay was always studious and an introvert. His father was proud of his achievements,” Gupta said.

Police Investigation Underway

The bodies have been sent for autopsy, and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Statements have been recorded from both families, and authorities are awaiting a formal complaint from Sweety’s family before taking further action. As of late Monday evening, no official case had been registered.
