A man was stabbed to death in southeast Delhi’s Bhogal area following a heated argument over a parking issue. The victim, 42-year-old Asif Qureshi, was the cousin of Bollywood actor Huma Qureshi. Two young brothers from the same locality have been arrested in connection with the murder.
Police say the attack happened around 10:30 pm on Thursday night, after Asif confronted one of the accused for parking a scooter in front of his house. The disagreement quickly turned violent. One of the brothers allegedly stabbed Asif multiple times in the chest with a sharp object, believed to be an ice pick.
Asif collapsed at the scene and was rushed to the National Heart Institute in East of Kailash, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Previous Dispute, Now Deadly
According to officials, this was not the first clash between the victim and the accused. Three months ago, a similar fight had broken out between them over parking, but it was settled after elders from the area intervened.
Asif’s family believes this latest attack was pre-planned. His wife, Shaheen Qureshi, said the attackers had assaulted him before and held a grudge.
“He only asked them to move the scooter so our gate wouldn’t be blocked,” she said. “But instead of moving it, they came back with more people and started abusing and attacking him.”
Shaheen added that despite her attempts to help, she was pushed aside. She believes the murder was intentional and not just a result of sudden anger.
Attack Caught on CCTV
The entire incident was captured on CCTV, and the footage has since been shared widely on social media. The clip shows a scuffle between Asif and the two accused men, with voices in the background shouting for help.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari confirmed that both accused – Ujjwal (19) and Gautam (18) – have been arrested. Ujjwal, a musician who takes classes in Lajpat Nagar, reportedly parked his scooter in front of Asif’s house. When Asif objected, he allegedly returned with his brother, who pulled out the weapon and stabbed him.
Police confirmed that Ujjwal has no previous criminal record, but Gautam had been involved in a case earlier as a juvenile.
Family Speaks Out
Saleem Qureshi, Asif’s uncle and actor Huma Qureshi’s father, described the killing as senseless.
“He was a hardworking man who supplied chicken to restaurants. This was murder over a small issue – a scooter parked at the gate. How can people kill over something so petty?” he said.
He added that society is becoming dangerously short-tempered, and strict punishment must be given to the culprits to ensure justice.
Investigation Ongoing
Senior police officers visited the crime scene and are speaking to neighbours and witnesses. CCTV footage is being reviewed, and police are trying to determine whether there was a history of hostility between the two families.
A case has been registered at Hazrat Nizamuddin Police Station under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to murder and common intention.
Police said efforts are ongoing to fully understand the motive and bring those responsible to justice.
