PDP supremo Mehbooba Mufti's daughter, Iltija Mufti, who was contesting for the first time in the electoral battle on Tuesday announced decision to accept the defeat after early trends showed her trailing by over 5000 votes.

"I accept the verdict of the people. The love & affection I received from everyone in Bijbehara will always stay with me. Gratitude to my PDP workers who worked so hard throughout this campaign," said the debutant in a post on X.

Iltija Mufti was trailing in Srigufwara-Bijbehara in Jammu and Kashmir, while National Conference candidate Bashir Ahmad Shah Veeri is leading by a margin of 5000 votes.

Iltija Mufti, an elections debutant, is rapidly emerging as a significant political figure in Jammu and Kashmir. The daughter of former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and the granddaughter of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, founder of the Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party (PDP), Iltija is stepping into the political spotlight with an assertive stance and a clear vision for the region’s future.

Iltija Mufti’s political career took off when she was appointed media advisor to her mother, Mehbooba Mufti. Her early role allowed her to observe the intricacies of political communication and strategy, a foundation that helped shape her own political identity.

Recently, she has adopted a more active role within the PDP having contested in the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections from the Srigufwara–Bijbehara constituency.
