NEW DELHI: India Inc strongly condemned the dastardly terrorist attack on tourists and civilians in Pahalgam, Kashmir, saying it would threaten peace and prosperity in the entire region.
"The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is deeply saddened and expresses its heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of the heinous attack," said Sanjiv Puri, president, CII.
At least 28 people, including two foreign tourists, were killed in Pahalgam on Tuesday after heavily-armed terrorists opened fire.
The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry in India ( Assocham) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry ( FICCI) also condemned the attack.
"The entire country stands united with both the central and state governments, and others in this hour of national tragedy," said Harsh Vardhan Agarwal, president, FICCI.
FICCI remains steadfast in its belief that violence has no place in our society, and only through collective resolve can we overcome such challenges to our nation's peace and security.
"Such acts of terrorism are an affront to peace, security, and the spirit of hospitality that Jammu and Kashmir has always extended to visitors," said Manish Singhal, secretary general, Assocham.
The Resistant Front (TRF), a faction of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack, one of the deadliest in recent years.
"CII and Indian industry stand united with the governments at both Centre & state levels and all stakeholders to collectively push back these attempts that compromise the security and well-being of our nation," said Puri.
Singhal also expressed solidarity, stating, "We stand united with the people of J&K and would support any initiative required, to preserve its social and economic fabric."
Puri also said that the safety of citizens is of utmost importance, and such terrorist attacks must be met with the highest severity. "The nation is strong enough to deal with such crises and ensure that this does not disrupt livelihoods and economic activities."
