The India Meteorological Department ( IMD) has forecasted light showers in the city on October 30 and 31, aligning with the Diwali celebrations which start on October 29 and continue until November 3.
Meteorologists noted that both day and night temperatures are expected to be slightly warmer than usual, with early morning mist predicted throughout the week.
“An upper air circulation is anticipated over Maharashtra in the next two days, increasing moisture in areas like Madhya Maharashtra, which includes Pune,” a senior Met official explained.
“As a result, light rainfall is expected on October 30 and 31,” he added.
Though the rain is not expected to disrupt daily life significantly, it may help moderate the higher-than-normal temperatures, bringing a refreshing coolness to the air, particularly during the festive period, the official said.
“The current clear skies are keeping daytime temperatures elevated, but we may feel a seasonal chill more consistently starting next month,” he continued.
On Sunday, the Shivaji Nagar and Lohegaon areas recorded above-average temperatures, with daytime highs reaching 34°C and 32.6°C, respectively—about 2.5°C and 1.1°C above typical levels for this time of year.
