Toyota has launched mild-hybrid versions of its popular Fortuner SUV and the premium Fortuner Legender in India. Called the Neo Drive 48V variants, these electrified models mark the Fortuner lineup’s entry into hybrid territory.
Bookings have now opened across India, with deliveries set to begin from the third week of June, ToI reported.
Under the hood, both the Fortuner Neo Drive and Legender Neo Drive continue with the 2.8-litre diesel engine producing 204 hp and 500 Nm of torque.
What’s new is the addition of a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that includes a belt-integrated starter generator and a lithium-ion battery. This system aims to improve fuel efficiency, ensure smoother low-speed driving, and reduce noise during engine starts.
The hybrid system also brings in features like regenerative braking and an auto start-stop function that switches off the engine when idling—cutting down on fuel use and emissions. Despite these changes, the overall design remains unchanged except for the addition of a ‘Neo Drive’ badge on the tailgate.
In terms of features, the new variants offer useful tech upgrades. These include a 360-degree panoramic camera to assist with parking and tight manoeuvres, and a wireless smartphone charger for added convenience. The interiors, however, remain largely the same as the current diesel versions.
Prices for the Toyota Fortuner Neo Drive 48V start at ₹44.72 lakh, while the Fortuner Legender Neo Drive 48V is priced from ₹50.09 lakh (both ex-showroom).
