A Bengaluru-based entrepreneur is now facing outrage online after a picture of herself, which bears the caption “Brahmin genes,” went viral. Anuradha Tiwari, the CEO of a content writing agency called JustBurstOut, recently shared a candid picture where she was seen sipping on coconut water and flexing her muscles.
Dropping the picture on X on Thursday, she wrote, “Brahmin genes.”
While the post did go viral on the microblogging site, gaining more than 1.7 million views and over 8,000 likes, she also faced a huge backlash for the casteist implications of her post.
Responding to her post, one X user rebuked her for forgetting that, as per Manusmriti (one of the major legal texts in Hindusim), she was not supposed to work and stay at home. “According to the Manusmriti, girls should stay at home all the time, take care of their husbands, and do nothing else. But because of the constitution, you’re flexing your triceps on Twitter and living life your own way. So go ahead and thank Babasaheb Ambedkar for that,“ they wrote.
Another shared the picture of bodybuilder Priya Singh, who hails from a lower caste, and wrote, “Rajasthan's Dalit daughter Priya Singh raised the country's honor in Thailand, won gold in 2022 bodybuilding...”
However, some users came to her defense. “Here, a so-called oppressed individual might label you as a "Manuwadi" and accuse you of being casteist simply for identifying as Brahmin, claiming you're an oppressor due to your background.”
Tiwari had earlier gained infamy for being an ardent proponent of the anti-reservation movement. Her X bio reveals her motto: One Family, One Reservation.
In many posts, the entrepreneur vented her frustrations on the reservation system and explained that, despite hailing from a high caste, she did not enjoy any privileges.
“I am a general category student. My ancestors have passed me down 0.00 acres of land. I live in a rented house. I couldn’t get admission despite scoring 95%, but my classmate who scored 60% and comes from a well-off family got admission. And you ask me, Why do I have a problem with reservations?" read one of her posts in 2022.
