Indian Railways has started a special train service to help stranded passengers and handle the spike in demand for travel in the wake of the horrific terrorist incident in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. Following the incident, this initiative seeks to give pilgrims and tourists who want to return home with safe and timely transportation.
The special train, designated as Train No. 04612, is scheduled to depart from SMVD Katra at 9:20 PM. It will make stops at Udhampur and Jammu Tawi stations before reaching New Delhi at 9:30 AM the following day. Tickets are available over the counter at Katra, Udhampur, and Jammu stations, ensuring accessibility for those in need.
To accommodate the increased passenger load, the train comprises a comprehensive coach composition: seven general compartments, eight sleeper coaches, two third AC coaches, one third AC economy coach, and two luggage-cum-brake vans. This arrangement ensures adequate capacity and comfort for travelers during their journey.

In addition to the special train service, Indian Railways has established help desks at key stations, including SMVD Katra, to assist passengers with travel arrangements and provide necessary information. These measures aim to streamline the boarding process and offer support to those affected by the disruptions.
The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, previously closed due to landslides triggered by heavy rains, has been reopened for one-way traffic. This development facilitates the movement of vehicles and aids in the evacuation efforts, complementing the rail services.
