Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Despite an unusually stormy and rainy May, city electricity consumption remained consistently high, recording a total of 37 crore units over the 31-day period.
The month witnessed several days of adverse weather, including thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rainfall—particularly between May 6 and 10—yet power usage stayed resilient.
According to official data, the city recorded daily electricity consumption of more than one crore units on 27 out of 31 days, with the highest single-day consumption reaching 1.40 crore units on May 27, when demand peaked at 646 megawatts.
On only four days did the city’s power usage dip below the one-crore mark. The average daily consumption for the month stood at 1.25 crore units.
Officials from the city’s electricity distribution company highlighted that power supply was maintained throughout May. In preparation for the upcoming monsoon season, pre-monsoon maintenance activities were also carried out on a priority basis to minimize potential disruptions in June.
West Discom managing director Anup Kumar Singh has been overseeing the maintenance operations. He noted that tripping incidents have decreased following the maintenance efforts, which will continue into the coming weeks to ensure uninterrupted service during the monsoon.
