Mumbai: The special PMLA court has closed the money laundering case against Ghatkopar-based builder Mukesh Mehta, after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) pleaded that the predicate offence registered by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has been closed way back in 2019. .
Complainant Says FIR Was Result of 'Misunderstanding'
Besides, ED prosecutor Kavita Patil pointed out that the complainant, in his statement, said that the offence was filed due to misunderstanding.
The ED had initiated a probe against Mehta on the basis of the case lodged against him and his other business partners by Bipin, who is the son of one of partners late Talakshi Khimji Makda.
Amboli FIR Alleged Fraudulent Sale of Oshiwara Property
In the complaint lodged at the Amboli police station on December 12, 2019, Bipin claimed that his father along with six others had established a firm, M/s Dalia Industrial Estate. He had accused the partners of forging his father’s signature for a property deal and duping them. The case was later transferred to the EOW.
According to Bipin, one of the partners, Hirji Kenya, had purchased a property on October 19, 1972, in Oshiwara on the company's behalf. Kenya was given the power of attorney by all the partners, giving him all the decision-making rights, said Bipin.
However, the property was illegally sold by Kenya and another partner, Jitendra Makda, to Mehta without the consent of others, Bipin claimed, adding that they also submitted fake documents to the deputy sub-registrar.
