Reliance Industries Ltd’s (RIL’s) AI arm Reliance Intelligence has partnered tech giant Google to boost AI adoption in the country by offering free Google AI Pro access to Jio users.
In a statement, RIL said it will roll out a number of AI-driven initiatives, including free Google AI Pro access to all Jio users for 18 months. The offerings under the partnership include access to Gemini 2.5 Pro through the Gemini app, increased limits for generating images and videos with Nano Banana and Veo 3.1 models, expanded access to NotebookLM for research, 2 TB of cloud storage, and more.
The company claimed that this combined package is valued at INR 35,100 per user. Jio users will be able to activate this offer via the MyJio App.
Apart from this, Reliance Intelligence will also serve as a strategic Google Cloud partner in India, broadening access to Google’s proprietary AI hardware accelerators (TPUs) for local organisations. The expansion aims to enable enterprises to train and deploy large-scale AI models within India’s borders.
Additionally, with the partnership, Reliance Intelligence will become the launch partner for Google’s latest agentic AI platform Gemini Enterprise for business in India. The company will develop and deliver both Google-built and proprietary AI agents within Gemini Enterprise, targeting sectoral adoption in highly regulated and data-intensive verticals.
This comes months after telecom giant Airtel announced a similar deal under which its users are getting a free one-year subscription to Perplexity Pro.
According to data available on Semrush for the month of August, Perplexity had about 45.2 Mn visitors coming on the platform from India, just within a month after the partnership. This was almost double the 25.3 Mn users it attracted from the US.
RIL announced the incorporation of its wholly owned AI subsidiary Reliance Intelligence in the last week of August. Speaking at RIL’s 48th AGM, MD and chairman Mukesh Ambani said that the subsidiary will build gigawatt scale AI data centres and aims to deliver easy-to-use AI services to consumers, small businesses and enterprises.
Last week, Reliance Intelligence announced the incorporation of its joint venture with Facebook Overseas Inc— Reliance Enterprise Intelligence Limited (REIL).
While Reliance Intelligence will hold 70% stake in REIL, Facebook will hold the balance 30%. Both the stakeholders have jointly committed an initial investment of INR 855 Cr ($97.4 Mn).
Similarly, AI company Anthropic, which owns Claude chatbot, is also exploring a partnership with RIL to deepen its presence in India.
