Alan Shearer savages Gary Lineker with brutal hair joke after Frank Lampard apology

Send Push

Alan Shearer mocked Gary Lineker’s grey hair before being met with a savage bald jibe from his BBC colleague.

The pair were part of the punditry team for the Netherlands’ Euro 2024 last-16 clash with Romania. Defender Andrei Rațiu and his vibrant blue hair was a major topic of conversation before the game.

And Shearer could not resist getting a jibe in about Lineker’s grey hair. He said: “Bit of a different blue rinse to yours, isn’t it, Gaz?”

The joke triggered laughter from studio guests Alex Scott and Ashley Williams. Lineker then attempted to get his own back with his own dig at Shearer’s hair-do.

He replied: “I’ve got no answer to that, Alan. At least I’ve got something to rinse.” The pair’s exchange of insults was not the first time that former England striker Lineker has been involved in a hair-based mis-step during Euro 2024.

He also put his foot in it with Frank Lampard earlier in the tournament. Discussing a screen at the Brandenburg Gate, Lineker said: "But if they took the screen down they wouldn't be able to watch the game."

Lampard replied: "They'd see my head. They wouldn't turn up for that!". Lineker then cruelly said: "No you're right, nobody wants to see the back of your head these days, that's for sure."

A video of the exchange went viral on social media in the days following. But Lineker has since revealed that he apologised to the Chelsea icon.

"I got myself in a bit of a pickle with Frank Lampard. It's gone viral, I feel bad," Lineker confessed on the Rest is Football podcast. "I didn't mean it the way it came out, but it's quite funny and Frank's as good as gold, he doesn't mind.

"Frank's slightly thinning, I'm slightly thinning, and I actually meant it about everyone. But when it came out, it came out a bit wrong. And you know Frank does that thing where he smiles, and then he suddenly doesn't smile?

"Frank's great fun, he won't mind. I must admit, when I got back to the hotel and saw it on social media, I went, 'Oh you f****** idiot'. I felt really bad, I'll have to apologise. It wasn't deliberate but I get how funny it was. Those things happen on live TV."

Lineker got a taste of his own medicine shortly after. Shearer was once again the guilty party as he mocked his colleague for being dropped by Johan Cruyff during his time at Barcelona.
