The Met Police were called to reports of a shooting shortly before 9pm on New Park Road on Monday. Medics rushed to nearby street, Forster Road, and treated two men, aged 20 and 27, for gunshot wounds before taking them to hospital.

Despite their best efforts, the 27-year-old died in the early hours of this morning. The Met Police confirmed his family are being supported by specialist officers. The force added that the 20-year-old has been hospitalised with non-life threatening injuries.

Locals flocked to community networking site, Nextdoor, after hearing "six gunshots". One person wrote: "I heard the screaming, it was all too real. I can't quite see the length of the road but I just knew it wasn't good. It's all too much isn't it. Very sad."

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 8.50pm last night (8 September) to reports of a shooting in Forster Road, Brixton Hill. We sent two ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, an advanced paramedic, an incident response officer and a paramedic from our tactical response unit to the scene.

"We also dispatched two advanced trauma teams in cars from London’s Air Ambulance. We treated two patients at the scene and took them both to a major trauma centre as a priority."

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Lee, who is leading the investigation, said: "My team are working at pace to establish the full circumstances that led to this man’s tragic death. Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family and friends at this very difficult time.

"They continue to be supported by specialist officers. A crime scene remains in place and residents can expect to see increased patrols in the local area as we carry out enquiries. We urge anyone in or around New Park Road to look at any doorbell or camera footage and share anything that may be of use with police.”
