A champion racehorse who holds the world record for the most prize-money won has been retired.
Golden Sixty became a local hero during the COVID-19 pandemic in Hong Kong where he won an astonishing 26 of his 31 races, including ten at Group 1 level.
He defeated horses trained by Aidan O’Brien and Andre Fabre when recording his last victory in the Hong Kong Mile in December.
But after a single start in 2024 in which he was a disappointing fourth, the eight-year-old known as ‘the Pride of Hong Kong’ is bowing out.
His owner Stanley Chan said: “Golden Sixty has been more than just a racehorse to me and my family; he has been a companion, a friend, and a true champion. Watching him compete has been one of the greatest joys of my life.

“I want to thank everyone who has been a part of his journey – his dedicated team, the fans and, most importantly, Golden Sixty himself for giving us unforgettable moments.”
Connections held a special ceremony at the stables of trainer Francis Lui to mark the occasion. Another event in front of fans will be held at Sha Tin racecourse on September 22.
Lui said: “It has been an honour to train such an extraordinary horse. Golden Sixty has brought immense pride to our stable and to Hong Kong racing. His fighting heart is unmatched.
“I will always cherish the memories we created. Thank you, Golden Sixty.”
Golden Sixty was ridden in every start by local jockey Vincent Ho who said: “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to ride such an amazing horse.
“He is not just a phenomenal athlete but also a horse with a big heart. I want to thank him for trusting me on the track and for all the incredible experiences we shared.
“Over the years, I have tried to enjoy every moment when riding him, no matter during races or trackwork. He will always hold a very special place in my heart.”
