Heartstopper star Yasmin Finney shared a candid admission about not seeing herself represented on TV as a trans woman.

Hosted by Alex Jones and Roman Kemp, she appeared alongside her co-star Joe Locke to discuss the latest season of the hit drama.

After welcoming the pair, Roman read out a complimentary message from a fan, which said: “Heartstopper means a lot to me because it helped me figure out my sexuality. I couldn't be more thankful for that series.”

He went on to ask the 21-year-old actress how she feels about receiving messages from fans who appreciate the Netflix series.

Yasmin, who plays Elle on the series, explained: "It means the most. When I was growing up, I didn't really have a show like Heartstopper to watch. So, for the younger generation to have a show like Heartstopper, it means the most. Because it kind of helps them navigate who they are and who they could be in the most natural and simplistic way."

She continued: "It's just a show of queer people being authentically and unapologetically themselves."

Host Roman prodded further, asking what demographic of fans reach out to the actress.

She revealed: “Sometimes I get comments like ‘I wish I had this growing up’ from 50,60,70 year olds and then sometimes it’s a little bit younger but it really goes out to everyone who relates and hopefully everyone who isn’t a part of the community as well.”

Jonathan Bailey, who guest-starred in the latest season, has previously expressed similar sentiments. In an interview with Variety, he revealed why he was drawn to the series, he said: "Like so many people, I watched the first series and thought it was one of the biggest, most beautiful gifts to so many people, and I wish I had that growing up."

Shifting the focus to the pair's BTS experience, Alex then asked what it was like to be on set with a star-studded set. The series has featured Olivia Colman, Jonathan Bailey and Eddie Marsan across numerous episodes.

Joe (who plays Charlie) chimed in: "We got our big break in the show and getting to work with such veterans who have been doing it for so long [and are] at the top of their game, it's like the best drama school you could ask for. "

Heartstopper, developed from Alice Oseman graphic novels of the same name, premiered its latest instalment on Thursday (October 3) to much acclaim. It debuted to a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and has been trending on since, with thousands of fans sharing their excitement. The series is widely praised for its LGBTQ+ representation.
