A furious tore into VAR referee Paul Tierney for failing to send off following a review on the defender's horror tackle in the Merseyside derby before calling out the star over his actions.
Tarkowski was only shown a yellow card by referee Samuel Barrot after the challenge, which came early in the first half. The call was checked by VAR, who on the basis that Tarkowski had 'played the ball' during his clash with Alexis Mac Allister, who was left in agony on the turf.
The posted on their social media account: "The referee’s call of yellow card for a reckless foul by Tarkowski was checked by the VAR, with contact on the follow through after Tarkowski had played the ball deemed to be reckless."
But Carragher, covering the game for , let rip at half time, condemning both Barrot and Tierney for allowing Tarkowski to escape without a red card.
The former man said: "We'll talk about VAR but the referee, Sam Barrot, he's in a brilliant position - he should give that on the pitch. He has to see that. Has to. It's a shocking tackle, we know it should be a red card, it's not even really up for debate. The referee should get it."

When he was then asked if the referee may have thought it was a natural follow through from Tarkowski's tackle, Carragher replied: "No. It's an awful tackle and we know Tarkowski knows what he's doing there. He's got previous as well, against for , we covered it on Monday Night , but the referee should give it on the pitch.
"For Paul Tierney [then] not to give it on VAR is shocking."
Former Everton striker Duncan Ferguson agreed with Carragher, adding: "There is no argument. Straight red. Back in the day, you might have got away with that. That could have been a leg breaker but that is a straight red all day long. He should have given the decision on the field but that is a straight red. Terrible decision."
also agreed and claimed that Tarkowski was lucky to escape with a yellow card. "Most would say he’s got the ball, but he knew exactly what he was doing, Tarkowski," said Neville on Sky Sports. "Mac Allister was there, [Tarkowski was] doing an old-fashioned follow-through - take the lot.
"Yeah, I think he’s [Tarkowski] lucky because he’s gone high. If you’re a defender you can put your foot on the floor if you want to, if you want to leave your studs in the air and catch someone’s knee or shin, I think he’s very lucky. I think it’s a bad one, that’s a potential leg breaker."
