A Metropolitan Police officer who began an "intense sexual relationship" with a woman he met while arresting her boyfriend has been jailed.
Daniel Humphreys, 38, shared more than 40,000 intimate messages with the woman, who he met on duty while attending a 999 call following an allegation of assault on July 4, 2019. The pair "developed a sexual relationship" almost immediately with some of the messages sexist, homophobic and racist, Southwark Crown Court heard.
The disgraced cop, who joined the Met in 2010, called the woman his 'Polish unicorn' and has since resigned from the force. Humphreys, of Coulsdon, Surrey was cleared of misconduct by 'engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a vulnerable female', but he was convicted by a juryof a second charge of misconduct in a public office by sharing confidential police information with the woman between July 14, 2019 and November 21, 2021.
The court heard the woman, who cannot legally be named, asked Humphreys in one text: "Are you a boobs or bum man?" Humphreys, who was based at the Met force's central north command, replied: "I sway more towards boobs. When I say I like boobs, it means I like busty boobs. Like yours. You shouldn't have the boobs you do."
He told the woman: "Some cop girls have bigger boobs, but they have sized down since I started training." He also said: "I don't want to sound like a racist but most black girls have a big fat ass."

The jury was told that the police officer sent her a photo of him in his boxer shorts and she shared a kinky picture of her dressed as a nurse. The woman also sent him one asking what the officer thought of her 'Jessica Rabbit' dress and Humphreys replied: "Banging. I definitely would."
Humphreys also told the woman: "If the whole Brexit thing happens you will need to marry someone to keep you here to convince the Home Office." The cop insisted the pair had "only flirted" and had not done anything wrong while the woman claimed they had a "steamy affair".
The officer admitted they shared tens of thousands of messages but he insisted he "had no professional involvement" with the woman after July 4, 2019. The woman said during trial: "He was fully trained. He was fully aware. I should have been given the right information from the beginning. Why did he not say that it is not okay for a police officer to engage in a relationship with victims of domestic abuse?"
The court heard that on February 28, 2021 Humphreys showed the woman a photo "depicting a victim's injury after a stabbing", as well as evidence of a "naked woman having a mental health crisis in public". Humphreys likened the confidential material he sent to the woman as a "dentist sharing x-rays".
The cop also sent the woman confidential police documents, including "information about victims and criminals" as well as custody images and allegations of rape details. He told the court he only did so because "she was interested in becoming a special constable" and claimed he was "helping a damsel in distress".
Wearing a dark navy suit, long bearded Humphreys was jailed for one year at Southwark Crown Court on Friday. Robert Morris, defending, said Humphreys was "blinded by love" and "wanted to impress the woman".
Mr Morris said: "He wanted to make her a special constable. This case was one of mixed motives, but there was no malicious motive. He wanted to pursue the relationship.
"You are dealing with an individual who has not only lost his job as a police officer on May 3, 2023, he has been barred from the policing profession through the disciplinary process. It was a job that he enjoyed which gave him purpose."
Passing sentence, Judge Christopher Hehir said the cop had "wanted to impress the woman" who he "undoubtedly loved". He told Humphreys: "You shared confidential information within that relationship, but you had no right to do so.
"Sadly, the impression I got is that you have a very cavalier attitude to your performances as a police officer. Repeatedly sharing confidential information relating to members of the public breaches a dignity and privacy of that material concerned.
"I accept your sharing of the information did not impact any case or prosecution, but sharing that material raised an obvious risk that such a thing could happen. I also accept that you were not motivated by financial gain to advance the interests of criminals, but I do not consider that your motivations provide you with any mitigation.
"You said your primary motivation was to assist the woman in helping her to become a special constable. I was sceptical of that at trial, and I remain sceptical of that now. You were providing a terrible example to the woman. I think your primary motivation was to impress the woman with whom you were involved in an intense sexual relationship with."
