Princess Diana won the hearts of countless for her empathy and kindness. Today (August 31) marks 28 years since her death and an old clip showing her level of awareness has resurfaced on social media.
The X user @awkwardgoogle shared a clip of the late princess gently pushing a microphone away from a woman’s face during her visit to Angola in 1997 after noticing her visible discomfort. In the video Diana is sat next to a local during a press interview and notices the woman looking uncomfortable with a journalist’s microphone too close to her face.
Diana discreetly but firmly pushes the microphone away, creating space for the woman to feel more at ease, and places a comforting hand on her arm.

The post’s caption reads: “Princess Diana pushes the interviewer's mic from a woman's face as she realised it made her uncomfortable in Angola.”

The princess joined the Royal Family when she married the then Prince of Wales, now King Charles, at St Paul’s Cathedral in London on July 29, 1981.

Princess Diana’s visit to Angola in January 1997 was for an important humanitarian trip.
Partnering with the Halo Trust, a charity focused on landmine clearance, she brought international attention to the deadly impact of landmines in post-war regions.
Images of her walking through a cleared minefield wearing protective gear remain among the most iconic of her life and are credited with helping influence the UK’s support for the Ottawa Treaty, which banned anti-personnel mines.
Prince Harry also visited Angola in 2019 to support the Halo Trust and he followed in his mother’s footsteps by walking through a minefield.
More than 25 years after her tragic death, Princess Diana continues to resonate with people around the world, not just for her role as a royal, but for subtle moments like this that showed her humanity.
