Dealing with clogged plug holes is arguably one of the most stomach-churning household tasks.

Poking around in a drain is seldom enjoyable, and the job can become truly revolting if you stumble upon a tangled mass of hair. Nonetheless, keeping pipes clear is crucial to avoid major plumbing issues.

Luckily, a cleaning sensation has revealed a nifty hack for extracting grimy hair without getting your hands dirty – and it'll only cost you a penny. The TikTok user @washy_wash recommended utilising inexpensive cable ties to free up blocked plug holes. In her demonstration, the home cleaning expert took mere moments to make "zig-zag" incisions along the length of a cable tie using scissors.

Having fashioned small barbs, she threaded the modified cable tie into her bathtub’s plug hole, effortlessly pulling out the matted hair caught within. "1p Bathtub Unclogger," announced the caption on the screen. In the comments section, when quizzed by someone puzzled about the cutting technique, the TikTokker clarified: "Zig zag - it looks like thorns," she responded. The savvy cleaner also highlighted that cable ties come in various sizes, so you can pick one that suits your needs.

She capped off her explanation by pointing out the appeal of this tip: "It's cheap and you can reuse it." Her followers lauded the ingenious trick, although a few expressed their disgust at the sight of the extracted hair. One impressed viewer exclaimed, "That looks so good," applauding the clever method.

"You gave me a good idea , thank you," read one response. However, another viewer had mixed emotions, stating: "Noooooooo I mean good idea but also noooooooo." Another person concurred: "Lol gross, but satisfying." "I'm already throwing up," read another comment. "So, if you hate seeing hair pulled from a drain, unfortunately, this tip won't help you, but it can save you needing to touch the hair with your bare hands."
