People have been left scratching their heads over a puzzling that only the 'smartest people in the country' can solve.

It has been making the rounds on social media as users spend their evenings trying to solve it using only and a pen and piece of paper.

Shared by user @wizeprep, it presents players with a triangle and nine circles drawn around them at various points.

It asks: "Can you solve this? Place the numbers 1 to 9 in the circles so that each side adds up to 17. No repeating numbers."

The quiz master goes on to show an example by simply writing the numbers in order around the triangle and adding them up, showing this isn't the correct solution.

From here, he leaves players to figure it out for themselves, inviting them to share their correct answers in the comments for those struggling to figure it out.

Commenting on the video, one user said: "I normally would try more than once at this but it’s 03:42 in the morning so I can't be bothered."

Another user added: "There are 96 solutions to this." While a third simply added: "Challenge accepted."

If you're still figuring it out, you might want to stop scrolling now as the solution is about to be revealed.

What's the answer?

One more user added: "Starting from left corner to right 3 + 5 + 7 + 2 = 17 2 + 6 + 8 + 1 = 17 right to top and 1 + 9 + 4 + 3 =17 top to left took me 15 seconds."

Another user said: "Right side top down 1, 9, 5, 2 = 17 Left side top down 1, 6, 7, 3 = 17 Bottom left to right 3, 4, 8, 2 = 17."

A final user said: "1+5+9+2=17 (left side); 1+6+7+3=17 (right side); 2+4+8+3=17( bottom)."

It comes after another creator put togetheto test your lateral and creative thinking skills.

First, players are asked to identify 'which person won't fall from the tree' when viewing an imagine of four people sat on two separate branches.

The first person is sat on the edge without a saw, while the second is sawing between them.

On the other branch, the third is sawing the branch of person one and two, and the fourth is sawing the branch their sitting on.

Next, players are simply asked to find the number 22 within a 5x5 grid of the number 21 – but they're only given a few second to spot it before it moves on.

Finally, players are asked to identify what number they see in a colourful image with swirls and patterns laid over it in an attempt to trick them.
