- Have Iyer and KKR parted ways?
New Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL 2024 title under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer. Even after this, if reports are to be believed, KKR is going to release Iyer. KKR defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad with an explosive batting lineup in the final of IPL 2024. Before joining KKR, Iyer has also taken Delhi Capitals to the final.
Why will Champion Captain be released?Talks between Kolkata Knight Riders and Shreyas Iyer got stuck on money. If reports are to be believed, due to no talks on salary, it has been decided to release him from the team. According to the Cricbuzz report, Iyer had demanded a very high salary from KKR. The franchise did not fulfill his demand and now has decided to put him in the auction. However, Iyer's performance has been poor for some time. His performance and his fitness at the international level also remain a matter of concern.
Runs are not coming from the bat. There is no doubt that experienced and talented players like Iyer are rare. But KKR believes that the form Iyer is in at present is not according to his demand. KKR bought Iyer for Rs 12.25 crore in the 2022 auction. He scored 401 runs in 14 matches at an average of 30.85 that season. This year he was able to score only 351 runs, which also included his five unbeaten innings. He could not play the entire 2023 season due to injury.
Delhi's eyes are on IyerShreyas Iyer made his IPL debut for Delhi. After Gautam Gambhir stepped down in 2018, the franchise made him the captain. Under Iyer's captaincy, the team reached the finals only once in 2020. Now once again Delhi Capitals' eyes are on Shreyas Iyer. The franchise can make every effort to buy him in the auction.
