The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has instructed all IPL teams to release South African cricketers by May 26. These players will not be able to play in the IPL playoffs, but will be seen playing in the World Test Championship. Apart from this, the BCCI has also clarified that West Indies players will play in the remaining matches of the IPL.
Players are facing problems due to the new date of the IPL.
In fact, after the announcement of a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, it was decided to resume the IPL from May 17, while the final will now be held on June 3, which was to be held on May 25. This led to a conflict in the international commitments of the players of South Africa, England, and the West Indies. The BCCI held talks with foreign boards, including CSA (South Africa Cricket), regarding the availability of players. But the South African Cricket Organization did not show leniency given the WTC final against Australia starting from June 11 at Lord's.
BCCI gave instructions to the teams
The South African team has to go to Britain on May 31, while the playoffs will start on May 29. And from this date, England's home white ball series against the West Indies will also start. In an official message to the teams, BCCI told, 'South African players must return to South Africa by Monday, 26 May. West Indies players will be available throughout the tournament.'
These players will be unavailable.
The absence of eight South African players including Tristan Stubbs (Delhi Capitals), Vian Mulder (Sunrisers Hyderabad), Kagiso Rabada (Gujarat Titans), Corbin Bosch (Mumbai Indians), Ryan Rickelton (Mumbai Indians), Marco Jansen (Punjab Kings), Lungi Ngidi (RCB), Aiden Markram (Lucknow Super Giants) can adversely affect the teams who are in the playoff race.
