Pakistan has submitted a list of 254 Indian or civilian prisoners and fishermen believed to be Indian lodged in Pakistani jails, while India has submitted a list of 452 Pakistani or civilian prisoners and fishermen believed to be Pakistani lodged in Indian jails.

Under the provisions of the bilateral agreement of 2008, such lists are exchanged on January 1 and July 1 every year.

Appeal for release of Pakistani prisoners

The Foreign Office said that the government has urged the immediate release and repatriation of all Pakistani prisoners who have completed their sentence in India. The Foreign Office said that under the efforts of the government, the return of 62 Pakistani prisoners in 2023 and four in the current year has been ensured so far.
